Introducing: Influential Chinese Directors

Unlike in the West, cinema in China is regarded as high art as opposed to a form of entertainment. As David A. Cook puts, Chinese cinema is “taught and understood as another form of literature.” ​

Throughout the history of Chinese film, aesthetics, storylines, cinematography, montage and mise-en-scène have changed. ​In this article, I hope to introduce four of the most influential Chinese directors.
